graphics, and several pages (for example, Contact Us, About Us, Services,
Personnel, Photos,
Company History) and that requires no programming will cost
under $1000 – how much under will vary depending on how much
content the site will have. The service includes taking the site
all the
way to posting the pages live: making
all
the graphics;
making
photos
web-ready;
putting
in
the text
that
you provide; helping you to register a domain name and to set up a
web host account.
Blackwood Design focuses on clean-functioning and relatively
simple sites with great design, which is sufficient for the needs
of most small businesses.
If you are interested in additional functionality, such as web forms,
interactive features, e-commerce, and the like, then programming
will be required. The team includes an experienced programmer.

To get a website going, you need three elements:
Domain name – such as www.blackwooddesign.com – which
you register a year at a time. Can cost from $4-20/year. You may well
get it free along with signing up for a web host (see below).
Web host – such as www.bluehost.com or www.lunarpages.com.
Inexpensive hosts abound on the web.
Blackwood Design does not serve as
a web host (having no desire to own and manage servers). Some clients have
been
using Bluehost, Webhero, and Lunarpages for a couple of years without
a problem other than very occasional downtime. Most
hosts
guarantee
99% uptime,
which means they can be down at odd moments for up to 4 days every
year. A standard hosting plan costs around $5-7/mo if
you pay for a
year in advance. This plan allows you to add blogs, shopping carts,
etc., using
simple things such as Paypal.
