To get a website going, you need three elements:


Domain name – such as www.blackwooddesign.com – which you register a year at a time. Can cost from $4-20/year. You may well get it free along with signing up for a web host (see below).

Web host – Inexpensive web hosting services abound on the internet. Most hosts guarantee 99% uptime, which means they can be down at odd moments for up to 4 days every year. A standard hosting plan costs around $5-7/mo if you pay for a year in advance. This plan allows you to add blogs, shopping carts, etc., using simple services such as Wordpress and Paypal.

Blackwood Design does not serve as a web host (having no desire to own and manage servers).
